June 28th Morning Fishing

June 28th Morning Fishing

After fishing for a couple hours with no bites, we finally found a nice school of coho salmon to pick on. We fished 60-70fow 5 miles south of the city. The coho were hungry and filled the box quickly once we found them. The flat seas and comfortable weather made for a great day on the water! Book your trip soon. Dates are filling up and the fishing should continue to get better!

June 6th Fishing Report

It was great to finally get back out again, as the weather kept us from fishing all last weekend. Fishing was great yesterday morning and a little slower in the afternoon, but we managed to get several nice fish on our afternoon outing. We fished the area around the Wreck in 70-85fow with best results on an East or West troll. Most bites came on spoons on 10 color leadcore and the down rigger SWR down 40-55. The kings are starting to show up in small numbers. We are really looking forward to see how the summer fishing pattern shapes up! Sorry, I forgot to take pictures- next time!

Winter Blues....

Well... Only 105 days until Why Knot is back in the water chasing salmon and trout. It's almost the new year and all we can think about is Lake Michigan salmon fishing. Searching youtube we found this cool 5 min video by the Michigan Sea Grant on the beginning life stages of the salmon we fish for. Over 50% of the salmon in Lake Michigan are naturally reproducing!

Winter Lakers!

I had the opportunity to fish with a friend from Chicago's Trollers Unlimited Club on Sunday. We had a great time as the weather cooperated for us and so did the fish. We had steady action on Lake Trout in the 5-12 pound range in 45-75FOW just off downtown Chicago. A lonely Brown Trout decided to join the party as well. All in all a great way to end the fishing season! One thing is for sure, our end of the lake is becoming a world class Lake Trout fishery!
